The San Francisco 49ers announced that the team has officially exercised the fifth-year option on offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, keeping the offensive lineman with the team through the 2022 season.
The move was expected. General manager John Lynch
informed reporters before the draft that the team planned to pick up the option, which will guarantee McGlinchey $10.88 million in 2022.
The 49ers drafted McGlinchey out of Notre Dame with the No. 9 overall pick in 2018. The 26-year-old has appeared in 44 games — all starts — through his three NFL seasons. As a rookie in 2018, he started all 16 games and was named to the Pro Football Writers of America's All-Rookie team.
McGlinchey earned career-highs in 2020 from Pro Football Focus when it comes to his overall grade (79.7) and run-blocking grade (91.3). However, his 58.3 pass-blocking grade was a career-low. McGlinchey started all 16 games at right tackle for San Francisco last season.
