The San Francisco 49ers selected Toledo cornerback Samuel Womack with the 29th pick (No. 172 overall) in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Womack registered 33 tackles, one tackle for a loss, 15 passes defensed, and two interceptions through 13 game appearances as a senior in 2021, per Sports Reference. He recorded 126 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 0.5 sacks, 39 passes defensed, five interceptions, and a forced fumble through his five collegiate seasons.

Womack is from Detroit, MI. He earned a pre-draft grade of 5.69 from NFL.com, which equates to a "chance to make a roster or practice squad," per the site's 8-point grading scale.

NFL.com projected Womack to be a seventh-round pick or priority free agent signing.

Below is the NFL.com draft profile bio on Womack:

Womack walked onto the Golden Rockets in 2017 after earning first-team All-Michigan and All-Detroit honors at East English Village Prep. He played in seven games as a true freshman (four tackles, one interception, one pass breakup) and then contributed in all 13 games with one start in 2018 (12 tackles, 1.5 for loss, one pass breakup). Womack tied for second in the FBS with 15 pass breakups (also 59 tackles, two interceptions) in 2019, starting all 12 games. He led the MAC with eight pass breakups in 2020 (20 tackles, 1.5 for loss). Womack was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2021, tying for second in the FBS with 16 pass breakups while also making 33 tackles and intercepting two passes in 13 games with 12 starts. -- by Chad Reuter

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote the following within his scouting report:

Former walk-on who has developed into a ball-hawking slot defender. Womack has eye-popping speed and quickness with above-average ball production as a three-year starter. He's a natural at searching for clues and utilizing quality pathways to play the throw. Inconsistent technique and a lack of poise and positioning downfield are areas of concern that might not be easily correctable with coaching. Womack is not strong against the run, but he's sticky from press and instinctive from zone, which gives him a chance to compete for a roster spot.

7-round mock draft from The Athletic sees 49ers fortifying defense early

By David Bonilla
Apr 17

Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week. "Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote. Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football. In fact, Brugler doesn't have San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers first selection in next week's draft comes at No. 31 overall. However, NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter doesn't have the Bay Area team remaining at that spot in the first round. In his seven-round mock draft, he envisions the 49ers striking a deal with the Green Bay Packers to move up six spots to No. 25 overall, where they select former Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. Reuter notes, "Whether it's for a cornerback like McKinstry, an offensive lineman or a receiver, the 49ers could very well give up a mid-round pick to acquire one of the few missing pieces on an otherwise potent roster." The rest of the mock draft reveals at least part of the

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus unveiled a seven-round mock draft for the San Francisco 49ers, addressing several key needs for the team in the 10-pick projection. Interestingly, the mock draft sees the team adding two legacy players. But before delving into that, let's examine the first three selections. Sikkema has the 49ers shoring up their offensive line at pick No. 31 with the selection of former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan. Morgan allowed 14 pressures and two sacks in his 477 pass-blocking snaps at left tackle in 2023. He earned an impressive pass-blocking grade of 87.3 and an overall grade of
