Round 6, Pick 38: 49ers select Michigan State WR Aaron Burbridge

Apr 30, 2016 at 2:19 PM--

With the 38th pick in the sixth round (213th overall), the San Francisco 49ers selected Michigan State WR Aaron Burbridge.

During his senior year, Burbridge had 1,258 yards on 85 receptions and seven touchdowns. Over his college career, he had 2,174 yards on 165 receptions for a 13.2 yards-per-reception average and 10 touchdowns.

NFL.com projected that Burbridge would be selected in rounds 4 or 5 of the NFL Draft.

Analysis

Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, who compares Burbridge to Jason Avant, had the following to say in his scouting report:

Outside receiver with good height and weight but lacking the deep speed to beat NFL cornerbacks down the field. Burbridge has enough short-area quickness to be an effective target against zone coverage, but could have problems against tight, press man. A move inside as a big slot receiver could be in his best interest. His Senior Bowl week and NFL Scouting Combine 40 time will be huge for his draft positioning.

DraftInsider.net had the following to say about Burbridge in their scouting report:

Burbridge turned in a breakout campaign last season and possesses enough skill to line up as a 5th receiver at the next level.

Pro Football Focus had the following to say about Burbridge in their scouting report:

Burbridge started 2015 off with a bang, but faded in his final five games at Michigan State. The team who drafts him will be getting a player who has never shown a lot of consistency, but has flashed, sometimes in big moments. That matchup with Jourdan Lewis was one of the most interesting individual battles of the past year, but Burbridge's full body of work isn't consistent enough to live up to that.
